Donation to the Vietnam Buddhist Temple

By Priyashantha and Kosala

This is a follow up to our previous message asking for your generous donations to the Vietnam Buddhist Temple.

Our donations to the temple will be a true expression of our heartfelt gratitude for the kind gesture extended by Vietnamese community and for the opportunity we had in the past to use this temple. We, as a community, should consider this as our obligation to contribute for the betterment of the Buddhist temple and to finance its programmes and operations. Therefore we encourage you to donate to the maximum you can.

As planned, we are going to collect your donations on 28th April at the New Year party. In the case of contribution by cheque, please write to; Chanh Tam Buddhist Congregation Saskatoon Inc. 229 Avenue Y South, Saskatoon, SK. S7M 3J4 Canada. If you need a receipt to your name for income tax purpose, we can make arrangement for that as well.

Thanks

Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

A Blessed and Happy Easter to you all !

Here is Martin Luther's magnificent Easter hymn: Christ Jesus Lay in Death's Strong Bands.

Christ Jesus Lay in Death’s Strong Bands

Christ Jesus lay in death’s strong bands
For our offenses given;
But now at God’s right hand He stands
And brings us life from heaven.
Therefore let us joyful be
And sing to God right thankfully
Loud songs of alleluia!
Alleluia!

No son of man could conquer death,
Such ruin sin had wrought us.
No innocence was found on earth,
And therefore death had brought us
Into bondage from of old
And ever grew more strong and bold
And held us as its captive.
Alleluia!

Christ Jesus, God’s own Son, came down,
His people to deliver;
Destroying sin, He took the crown
From Death’s pale brow forever:
Stripped of pow’r, no more he reigns;
An empty form alone remains;
His sting is lost forever.
Alleluia!

It was a strange and dreadful strife
When life and death contended;
The victory remained with life,
The reign of death was ended.
Holy Scripture plainly saith
That death is swallowed up by death,
Its sting is lost forever.
Alleluia!

Here the true Paschal Lamb we see,
Whom God so freely gave us;
He died on the accursèd tree—
So strong His love—to save us.
See, His blood now marks our door;
Faith points to it; death passes o’er,
And Satan cannot harm us.
Alleluia!

So let us keep the festival
To which the Lord invites us;
Christ is Himself the joy of all,
The sun that warms and light us.
Now His grace to us imparts
Eternal sunshine to our hearts;
The night of sin is ended.
Alleluia!

Then let us feast this Easter Day
On Christ, the bread of heaven;
The Word of grace has purged away
The old and evil leaven.
Christ alone our souls will feed;
He is our meat and drink indeed;
Faith lives upon no other!
Alleluia!

Donation for New Vietnamese Buddhist Temple in Saskatoon

By Xuan Vo.

Dear Buddhist Followers in the Sri Lankan Buddhist Community in Saskatoon,

I am Xuan Vo and writing this message on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Chanh Tam Buddhist Congregation in Saskatoon (Vietnam Buddhist Temple) and the Venerable Thich Nu Hien Lien, the Resident Buddhist Nun of the Chanh Tam Temple.

Our Congregation has decided to build a new Chanh Tam Temple in the coming fall. The new temple is still at the same location. A fund raising campaign for this purpose was kicked off on August 28th, 2006.

We planed to present the fund raising letter to you at our temple in the gathering organized for Lal Samarasekera’s mother birthday. Unfortunately the event was cancelled. I am herewith sending you the fund raising letter as an attachment. We wish you to present this letter to all of the followers in your community to call for contributions into the fund to build the new Chanh Tam Temple. Generous contribution from you and your community is a great help for this project.

As in the past, you and your community are always welcome to use the temple for praying and worship. The new temple will be a great facility serving all the needs for Buddhist activities for both the Vietnamese and Sri Lankan communities.

Sincerely,
Xuan Vo.

“A noble giver is one who is happy before, during and after giving. Before giving he is happy anticipating the opportunity to exercise his generosity. While giving he is happy that he is making another happy by fulfilling a need. After giving he is satisfied that he has done a good deed”. - The Lord Buddha
