TWB "Elevator Pitch"

Developing a Pitch with Bryan!

Here is what we came up with:

TWB is part of a not for profit international network that is committed to thinking globally and acting locally. We have recognized needs such as access challenges and resources limitations. Through volunteering, fundraising, and connecting schools and communities, we will collaborate to address these challenges.

These few sentences should help us all when people ask "So what is TWB about anyway?" Please make suggestions and post comments on what you think!

TWB BBQ at Geraldine's House!

Hi everyone,

We are planning to have a BBQ at Geraldine's house on May 6th at 6:00pm! Everyone involved with TWB, who helped out with the bake sale, or is on our mailing list is invited! If you would like to come email me, Carmen, at cea074@mail.usask.ca and I will give you Geraldine's address.

Also, we are supposed to bring salads, deserts, and beverages. If you are coming, make a comment on this posting with what you will bring and we will all be organized!

Thanks and I hope to see everyone there! Even if we haven't seen you in a while! :)

Carmen

Hey everyone, we started the meeting by quickly reviewing how our meetings with the Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Board and the Saskatoon Public School Division. If you want specifics on these meetings just email me and I will send you the info (cea074@mail.usask.ca)

We also developed a pitch with Bryan McCrea (check out the posting to see what we came up with and make changes/comment)

Task: Office Space – Meet with Geraldine on Monday May 27th at 10:00am to check it out and say what furniture we want! Awesome!

Task: Recruitment Stunt in the fall: Maybe have people buy a burger, push two big things together (closing the educational divide) and write a pledge of what they will do (talk to friends about ed issues, etc), OR build some sort of bridge (bridging the gap) out of blocks that people write a pledge on - BOTH CooL ideas!!! Tell us what you think!

Task: Jeremy will contact Broadway merchants’ association this week to set up how we can be involved in the BROADWAY STREET FAIR in the fall (just to say "Hi!" to the community and let them know we exist!)

TWB Meeting #6
April 9 ‘09

Task: Kara, write a cheque for $85.00 (65$ to incorporate and 25$ for name search) has to be made out to minister of finance (will do this ay next mtg)

Task: Brainstorm ideas for next year:

- Concert Without Borders (Kyle's idea): recruit bands for charitable reasons and have a concert, free admission, (or cheap), have a beer gardens, bring some sort of school supplies instead of fees (maybe make school kits, there is a list of things that goes into them, they get distributed around the world- Mennonite central does this, they have this list)
- Find out where we want it – Manhatten, Drive in, (bio-degradable beer cups), field behind education, the sculpture field, we would have campus security, it would be on campus, easy to get to (Jeremy will email me the name, employee of USSU, does safewalk, and insurance for diff., maybe do stuff in bowl, could we partner with Lois? Diff kinds of music, start at 5:00, could have cultural dance, Brenda Baker choir (BBQ, 5 -7 family oriented, 8 beer etc. 10), Mitchels Meat (good BBQ package). Probably need a tent, a stage, sound system.

- Guatamala – Geraldine is looking into this, she talked to Vivian, would focus on service learning and looking at indigenous issues such as the fall out of civil war and how community orgs are working to re-establish community

- Pizza sales every week (once a week) – The bio club does this (Carmen will call bio club and see what kind of process they go through)

- Put bins up on campus to collect extra school supplies, is there space in tunnel to put one? (Kelly will look into this – she’ll send an email to USSU)

- Advertising: Fall '09
First week back, advertise in the bowl, have a table in the bowl, recruit some people who are in PAA and Music who won’t be out interning (we have blurb that goes out with orientation info – have contact so they can contact me before they come in (we will organize this closer to the fall)
- Banner over overpass could do all the WB’s
- Banners outside plac riel
- Painting side walks (sidewalk chalk that’s good for environment)
- Banner at top of stairs going into the arts building from tunnel (above tims)

- Event for spring '10: Have speaker night (maybe Greg Mortenson) – Carmen will email/call and ask if he charges fees to speak etc.

Task: Meeting with school district contacts on April 22 and 28 (Kelly and Ashlyn)

Task: Trying to have executive in the city (Geraldine will talk to Donna)

Information from TWB Meeting #5

Hi everyone!

Sorry it has taken me so long to get this information up, I'm a little swamped right now. Next week I will do better!

We had another awesome meeting this week, here's what we got done:

Task: Elect executives for fall 2009!

Meet your new executive team:

President: Carmen Adams
Vice President Administration: Kara Deshaies
Activities Coordinator: Jeremy Murphy
Public Liason (double position): Kelly Gray / Ashlyn George

Task: We still need to fill out form for registering as a non-profit org. in Saskatchewan (Kelly and Carmen will do this in the next week.)

Task: Confirm meeting time (we decided that 5:00 on Thursdays till end of April works well for everyone!)

Task: Next week, lets all come with a few ideas for the fall/events for next year that we can consider. We’ll choose what we want to do, and get on organizing it this spring.

Task: Ashlyn and I still have to hear back from Angela Ward about having the executive in the city (Geraldine said she would talk to her).

Task: Should we even get ratified? Yes, but we can consider this question again next year.

Task: Kelly has the three contacts from school board - awesome! Ashlyn and Kelly will meet with these people to discuss what the perimeter schools need and would like us to do for them.

Task: Geraldine suggested maybe planning a trip to Guatemala (right after term ended one year from now) she will look into this for next week.

Task: BBQ at Geraldine’s house for TWB members! (Maybe Sunday April 26th??) Email me or post if this date doesn't work for you!

NEXT MEETING:

All meetings in April, including this week's meeting, will take place on Thursdays at 5:00pm in the language arts resource center on second floor of Education. Please come out if you can make it. We are finally into the exciting planning stages and would like as much input and creative ideas as possible! At this meeting we will all bring some ideas to share and consider what we want to focus on for the fall!
