We have also been working to organize ourselves for next semester, when we plan to do some more fundraising and awareness events. You will have to check up soon to hear more about that!!

We have been raising money for Saskatoon schools, and are getting ready to hand it over to a deserving project. In this way, we are maintaining our mandate to support education locally and globally.

TWB will also be having a bake sale in Education on December 2nd! Everyone should show up for some sweet holiday treats!

Finally, we have a few things on the go for after Christmas, but you'll have to sta tuned to find out more!

TWB: Coming Together for Education

On September 15th, 2009, the Saskatoon community will help by “paying to push” two giant pieces of the “education puzzle” across the University of Saskatchewan campus. These pieces will be 200 feet apart, and we are inviting you to push and help us bring them together. The cost of one foot is $10.

Proceeds raised for the event are being used to improve educational programming for at risk students in Saskatoon and area schools. Each donation will help move the two pieces together, foot-by-foot.

Each donor is invited to come to the U of S campus and literally push the giant prop closer together. Your photo will be taken and your organization’s logo will be placed directly on the sign. After the event, this sign will be displayed around the University of Saskatchewan campus.

TWB works in the Saskatoon region to bring communities together to improve the educational opportunities for students. In turn, the symbolic “coming together” of the TWB sign at the U of S represents Saskatoon citizens coming together for the students in their area.

Well, construction for the big TWB sign halves for our stunt in the fall is OFFICIALLY UNDERWAY! We have bought the materials (at good prices I must say!) and we will start putting everything together in the next week. Keep checking your emails because I will send out a msg about the first work times!

IMPORTANT:
At this meeting we decided that we will not have any further meetings this spring, as most of the things we have planned for the fall are set up already. This means we will NOT have the previously scheduled May 28th meeting.

We do still have the big halves of the TWB logo to make for our stunt in the fall. It has been designed, we're in the process of finding wood/paint etc. and I will send out an email for when we can get together and work on it!! Get your paint shirts out and I will see you all soon!

Here is what we came up with:

TWB is part of a not for profit international network that is committed to thinking globally and acting locally. We have recognized needs such as access challenges and resources limitations. Through volunteering, fundraising, and connecting schools and communities, we will collaborate to address these challenges.

These few sentences should help us all when people ask "So what is TWB about anyway?" Please make suggestions and post comments on what you think!

We are planning to have a BBQ at Geraldine's house on May 6th at 6:00pm! Everyone involved with TWB, who helped out with the bake sale, or is on our mailing list is invited! If you would like to come email me, Carmen, at cea074@mail.usask.ca and I will give you Geraldine's address.

Also, we are supposed to bring salads, deserts, and beverages. If you are coming, make a comment on this posting with what you will bring and we will all be organized!

Hey everyone, we started the meeting by quickly reviewing how our meetings with the Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Board and the Saskatoon Public School Division. If you want specifics on these meetings just email me and I will send you the info (cea074@mail.usask.ca)

We also developed a pitch with Bryan McCrea (check out the posting to see what we came up with and make changes/comment)

Task: Weekly pizza sales for next year are a go! We don't need a license and we will find a good deal from a local pizza place! This will be a very god fundraiser for us.

Task: Discussed different people we could have come to speak at our speaker night in spring '10.

Task: Office Space – Meet with Geraldine on Monday May 27th at 10:00am to check it out and say what furniture we want! Awesome!

Task: Recruitment Stunt in the fall: Maybe have people buy a burger, push two big things together (closing the educational divide) and write a pledge of what they will do (talk to friends about ed issues, etc), OR build some sort of bridge (bridging the gap) out of blocks that people write a pledge on - BOTH CooL ideas!!! Tell us what you think!

Task: Jeremy will contact Broadway merchants’ association this week to set up how we can be involved in the BROADWAY STREET FAIR in the fall (just to say "Hi!" to the community and let them know we exist!)
