Presenting the 2011-12 SaskCulture Board of Directors

During its Annual General Meeting on Oct. 28, 2011, SaskCulture’s membership elected one new board member, re-elected one board member and accepted by acclamation four returning board members. The 2011-2012 SaskCulture Board consists of:

Arts – David Cormican by acclamation to a 2-year term

Cultural Industries – Brenda Shenher by acclamation to a 2-year term

Heritage – James Ingold by acclamation to a 2-year term

Membership at Large – Pat Graystone by election to a 2-year term; and

Laurel Reimche by election to a 2-year term

Multicultural – Bula Ghosh by acclamation to a 2-year term

They join the following: Reggie Newkirk (President), Peter England (Past President), Harvey Knight, James Hawn, Jennifer Holmes, Cheryl Avery, Joseph Otitoju, and Gwen King.

SaskCulture would like to thank all the nominees who let their name stand for the Board. Your interests in culture are greatly appreciated and we hope you continue your volunteer work within the cultural network.

SaskCulture Museum Grant Program – deadline Nov. 30

The Museum Grant Program provides three streams of operational support to qualifying museums throughout the province. Museums are encouraged to apply for annual funding through the Museum Grant Program. For more information, Museum Grant Applications are due Nov. 30, 2011. SAA interviews Saskatchewan political parties on their arts policies

The Saskatchewan Arts Alliance (SAA) recently interviewed representatives of the Green Party of Saskatchewan, the Saskatchewan Liberal Party, the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party and the Saskatchewan Party on their arts policies. Young Regina composer wins national music composition award

Sixteen-year-old Arthur Hamilton of Regina won first place in a national music composition. Hamilton’s choral piece, Footprints in the Sand, placed first in the 15-years-and-under category with an award from the Canada Federation of Music Teachers’ Associations (CFMTA). Call for Proposals – Stewards of Saskatchewan colouring book

The Stewards of Saskatchewan programs of Nature Saskatchewan are creating a children’s colouring book of Saskatchewan species at risk, including both plant and bird species. They are now accepting proposals from illustrators to create the drawings for this project. Proposals can be submitted until Nov. 30, 2011. SaskCulture Inc.’s Next Electronic Member Update

The SaskCulture Inc. Member Update is sent electronically each Wednesday to all SaskCulture member organizations. Member organizations will receive the electronic Member Update at the address designated in SaskCulture’s database. Recipients are encouraged to forward the Member Update to other members of their organization.

A Member Mail-out is scheduled every second Friday. The next mail-out will be Friday, November 4, 2011. Materials must be at the SaskCulture office, #404 - 2125 11th Avenue, by noon on Thursday, November 3, 2011.
