Alberta Preparing to Limit Metis Rights to Hunt, Fish

Cotter of the National reports that the present interim harvesting agreement in Alberta expires this sunday. Audrey Poitras, president of the Métis Nation of Alberta, said:

"...the government has prepared a replacement plan that would limit harvesting rights to areas around 17 Métis communities in northern Alberta. The plan would effectively exclude Métis who live in southern Alberta."

The Province of Saskatchewan has proclaimed June 2007 as Aboriginal History Month. The idea originated as an initiative of the Regina Aboriginal Professionals Association (RAPA), whose mission is to develop a network of people committed to fostering opportunities for Aboriginal peoples.

Saskatchewan Environmental Industry and Managers Association (SEIMA) is Working Toward a More Representative Workforce

The Government of Saskatchewan signs an agreement with SEIMA to increase involvement in environmental industry development opportunities for Saskatchewan Aboriginal people. This is the 79th partnership agreement signed through the Aboriginal Employment Development Program (AEDP)
