Breaking Free of the Indian Act
Shawn A-in-chut Atleo, National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations (AFN), writes on how Canadians do not know a lot about Canada's Indian Act which was created in 1876 to control the lives of Canada's Aboriginal peoples. He advocates breaking free of the Act to create a new era in governance where First Nations people are responsible to their own people first and foremost.
