AFN Response to Federal Announcement
The Assembly of First Nations has responded to the Harper Government announcement on First Nations water and wastewater improvements by pointing out the this measure was previously announced in the March 2012 budget. Former Auditor General Sheila Fraser indicated that safe water status had worsened over her ten-year term and a government-commissioned study found that $4.7 billion is needed over the next ten years to fix the problem.
