Harper's national recognition stems from his refusal to support the Meech Lake Accord in 1990 due to the fact that the accord was negotiated without the input of Canada's Aboriginal peoples.</p>

The tribunal declared the election null and void on April 16th and ordered a new election for the position of First Vice-Chief. The decision was overturned on April 20th by the FSIN's joint Executive Council and Indian Government Commission (EI/GC).</p>
