The Aboriginal Business Opportunities Conference Series focuses on networking and discussions around joint ventures. The sessions will showcase successful private sector/Aboriginal business ventures as cases studies and examples for others to follow. The conference will be hosted by Chiefs Harold Leighton and Garry Reece with over 200 other key Aboriginal and private sector business leaders. The conference will be held in Prince Rupert at the Northcoast Convention Centre, April 12th-14th, 2011.
Over 1,000 Aboriginal youth attended a four-day conference in Prince Rupert, March 21-24, 2011. The youth spent the majority of their time at the conference in workshops that centered around the issues and culture unique to their lives as young Aboriginal people. Many of the workshops were about introducing the youth to different aspects of their cultural heritage, others were considerably more serious, including frank discussions with the youth about the issues in their home communities, issues that are affecting Aboriginal youth all over Canada.
The First Annual Indigenous Health Conference was held Friday and Saturday, March 25-26, 2011 in Saskatoon. The focus was on sharing knowledge with communities on health issues that included topics on safe drinking water in Aboriginal communities, nutrition and activity levels in children, an examination of the portrayal of Aboriginal gang members in the media, and even the transmission of parasites among dogs in northern communities.
The 6th annual Learning Together conference will be held April 6-7 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. The conference will provide Aboriginal professionals and post-secondary students with information about the Canadian mining industry and its value for Aboriginal communities.

An International parliamentary conference titled, Parliaments, minorities and indigenous peoples: Effective participation in politics was held October 31, 2011 - November 3, 2011. The Chiapas Declaration was created as an outcome of the conference to ensure the rights of Indigenous peoples and minorities will be considered in a serious and responsible manner. The declaration is based on the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, ILO Convention 169, and other international instruments concerning Indigenous Peoples.

The Gabriel Dumont Institute's 30th Anniversary Celebration Culture Conference will be held in Saskatoon, November 18 and 19, 2010. The keynote address will be made by Métis author Maria Campbell. Conference sessions will include hands-on cultural activities, presentations of Métis-specific research, Michif language sessions, discussions about Métis cultural history, and this year special student awards will be introduced with the Order of Gabriel Dumont Bronze medals.
The Native American and Indigenous Studies Association has issued a call for papers in regards to the upcoming Third Annual Meeting which will take place on May 19-21, 2011 in Sacramento, CA. This event will be hosted by the Department of Native American Studies, University of California, Davis.

The ISIK 2010 organizing committee is accepting papers and posters for "Making the Journey In: Indigenous Knowledge and the University." The conference looks at what happens to Indigenous knowledges in university settings and will explore colonial legacies, postcolonial approaches, anti-colonialism, and decolonisation.
