         <title>2010 Vancouver Olympics To Be Broadcast In Eight Aboriginal Languages</title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p>Keith Pelley, president of the broadcast consortium in charge of coverage said multilingual commentators and analysts will be drawn from a consortium of media outlets that include the <a href="http://www.cbc.ca/arts/media/story/2009/11/16/olympics-languages-broadcast.html">Aboriginal Peoples Television Network </a>(APTN), Asian Television Network and OMNI Television. Olympic coverage by APTN will feature a mix of English, French and eight aboriginal languages. They include Cree, Dene, Inuktitut, Mechif, Mi'Kmaq, Mohawk, Ojibway and Oji-Cree. </p>

         <title>Ottawa Cuts Funding To First Nations University</title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p>Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development announced Monday that the Federal Government will not continue to fund the <a href="http://www.cbc.ca/canada/saskatchewan/story/2010/02/08/sk-fnuc-cut-1002.html">First Nations University of Canada (FNUC) </a>,starting in the new fiscal year April 1. The cut is being made because FNUC has failed to make progress on "long-standing, systemic problems related to governance and financial management," Strahl said in a news release.</p>]]></description>

         <title>FNUC Board of Governors Dissolved</title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p>The First Nations University of Canada (FNUC) is the subject of an editorial in the <a href="http://www.edmontonjournal.com/news/First%20Nations%20University/2525066/story.html">Edmonton Journal </a>which advocates drastic changes to the institution. Meanwhile on Thursday, the <a href="http://www.thestarphoenix.com/FNUC+board+dissolved+FSIN+chiefs/2522370/story.html">Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) </a>voted 46-0, with 8 abstainers, in favour of dissolving the FNUC Board of Governors. Shortly before the resolution was debated FSIN Chief, Guy Lonechild, made the first move and stepped down from the FNUC Board.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Government of Canada Supports Accelerated Membership Process For Qalipu Mikmaq First Nation </title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians, and Brendan Sheppard, President of the Federation of Newfoundland Indians (FNI), on Monday announced an accelerated process for updating the membership list for the <a href="http://news.gc.ca/web/article-eng.do?m=%2Fnews-nouvelles&nid=509879&nwsb=aud&nwsb=aud">Qalipu Mi'kmaq First Nation </a>Band to be established in early 2010 for the Mi'kmaq of Newfoundland. As of November 30, 2009, nearly 26,000 applications had been received and approximately 11,000 had been approved for the initial members list by the Enrolment Committee, chaired by Mr. Tom Rideout. <br />

         <title>Saskatchewan Government Stops FNUC Funding</title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Saskatchewan provincial government is cutting funding to the First Nations University of Canada (FNUC) citing the problems there are, "deep and structural" which puts the future of the institution in doubt. <a href="http://www.thestarphoenix.com/Saskatchewan+Party+government+pulls+million+funding+FNUC/2517920/story.html">Advanced Education Minister Rob Norris</a> says that no new funding will be extended after April 1, 2010 and that all provincial funding will wrap up by August of this year, thus allowing current students to finish their current academic term.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) report  there is a trend of <a href="http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/gazette/vol70n2/gang-bande-rural-eng.htm">major Aboriginal gangs </a>moving into remote rural communities in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. The gangs ease their way in relying on cultural connections to enlist new members, branch out their territory and get away from the enforcement of city police.          <title>Saskatchewan Education Minister Says Provincial Funding For FNUC In Jeopardy</title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p>Saskatchewan's Advanced Education Minister, <a href="http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/spending-scandal-engulfs-native-university/article1448631/">Rob Norris</a>, said on Friday Jan. 29th that provincial funding for the First Nations University of Canada is in "significant jeopardy" in light of damning allegations against its senior administration.<br />
The school has been strongly criticized by faculty groups for what they see as political interference at the University by the FSIN. Most of the university's board members are currently appointed by Saskatchewan's tribal councils.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Saskatchewan First Nation Resident Killed by Stray Dogs</title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p>A 10 year boy is dead after an attack by a pack of stray dogs on the <a href="http://www.thestarphoenix.com/dies+attack+northern+Saskatchewan+First+Nation/2506674/story.html">Canoe Lake First Nation </a>. The attack happened Saturday while the boy was on his way to visit a cousin. The community, located 350 kilometres north of North Battleford, SK. reports that this is not the first time someone has been hurt by dogs on the reserve. Last September a six year old was seriously injured after being attacked by stray dogs at nearby Ill-a-la-Crosse.</p>]]></description>
