About the Gran Bahia Principe Hotel
Some information about the Gran Bahia Principe hotel, my home these two weeks.
The Gran Bahia Principe Hotel is a huge sprawling hotel on the Mayan Rivera, just north of Tulum. You can get some information about it at http://www.bahia-principe.com/.
It consists of three main lobbys. The Tulum, Akumel and Coba lobbys. The Tulum and Akuba rooms are close to the beach, (about 100 yards away). The Coba rooms are further away.
Each lobby has its own buffet (the Tulum one is the Yucatan buffet where I mostly eat). There are also several "a la carte" restaurants which you must reserve. Each area also has its own gift shop and jewelry shop, its own pool it's own strip of beach, etc.
There are also special areas. For example, people who pay for the "Club Diamond" option (like our group did) get access to the club diamond hacienta with it´s own bar, pool, and internet access. This also gives them access to resources at the other lobbys. So, for example, I can use the Akumal and Coba beaches, not just the Tulum beach.
I have heard that the hotel has only been in existance for about 7 years. It employs about 2500 people and has about 2300 rooms. Assuming about 2 to 3 people per room that gives about 4600 to 6900 visitors here at any one time.
