3D Pictures from my Mexican Vacation
Kevin builds some 3d images from his Mexican vacation.
For a few years now I've been experimenting with 3D pictures. You know, those pictures where you need the "red/cyan" 3d glasses to view the images. The process to make them is actually relatively simple.
Take two pictures side by side, about the same distance apart as your eyes (although you can enhance the 3D effect by taking them wider apart). Try not to have things too close in the foreground. The main items should be visible in both pictures (for example, not just tree branches in one picture, and the tree trunk in the other).
Load the pictures into your favorite image editing program (I use Paintshop Pro). Crop the pictures so that the item you want people to concentrate on is in the same location on both pictures. You may also have to rotate the images, etc. to get them to match up properly. The pictures must also be exactly the same size.
Now, split both pictures into the Red, Green, and Blue pieces (using the "Channel Splitting" option in Paintshop pro).
Finally, combine the red from the left eye image, with the green and blue from the right eye image. That will create the 3D picture.
Here's some examples. You will need the red/cyan 3d glasses to see them properly. Click on the image for a larger version.
