Mexico Holiday: Day 14 (A Crimson moon)
Kevin does some snorkeling, then watches a shadow pass over the moon.
¡Hola Amigos!
Well, it's my last full day here. I managed to squeeze the last little bit of sunscreen out of my bottle, so I'm good to go today.
Most of the day was spent down at the beach again, swimming and just hanging out.
The winds are still high and the red flags are out, so they wouldn't lend me any snorkeling equipment. But I did manage to swim a bit in the calm protected area and take a few pictures. There is a place where people can feed fish off the dock, so I got some underwater pictures of the fish there.

I was watching the news this morning and found out there is a total eclipse of the moon tonight. At sunset, I went to the beach to watch a crimson moon rise. It was hard to find the moon, because it was so faint in the light sky at sunset. But when the moon started coming out of the earth's shadow, it became easier to see. It started as a cresent moon, then kept building to a full moon as the earth's shadow moved.
Here's a picture taken early on while the sky was still in twilight. The moon started coming out of shadow while the sky was pretty bright so I didn't get to see the blood-red moon while it was in shadow.

This picture was taken later. I've brightened it a bit. To take the picture, I had to set my camera to a 15 second exposure and hold it really still against one of the beach umbrellas. An interesting effect is that the sea looks smooth, even though there were many waves coming in. The time lapse smoothed all those waves out.

This last picture was taken a bit later, when the moon was almost full. I was standing on the gazebo where Trevor and Tammy got married, bracing the camera against the railing to get the 15 second explosure.

For more information on the lunar eclipse, see Nasa's web site.
After that, I went for supper, then hung out at the bar until around 10:00.
From the bar, I went to the last show which I didn't see last week. The circus. This has to be my favourite show. Lots of jugglers, acrobats, people doing amazing things on ropes, contortionists, etc.
One of my favorite acts was a clown who brought out two toy elephants. He put both of them down on the stage. Then made a big deal about how he was going to make these stuffed toys walk across the stage. Of course, they didn't walk. He then faked it with the first toy elephant. It was obviously on a fishing line so he made it look like it walked by pulling it along like a kid does when playing with a toy.
He started walking off stage, but then remembered the other elephant. He tried to get it to move but it wouldn't. Then he remembered he had to wind it with a key. He wound it up, and the elephant then started walking around the stage. It would walk so far, then the key would wind down, so it would collapse and lie down. The clown would put it on its feet again and wind it up again, and it would then walk some more.
However, the best part was at the end. When he took off the elephant suit and there was a toy poodle dog inside it. This dog must have been very well trained. For the first half of the show, it stood completely still, not turning its head, not moving an inch, while the clown messed about with the other toy elephant. It was great.
I ended the night by finishing up my packing. I managed to just barely squeeze everything into the one bag I came with (after throwing out my old holely underwear and socks). But it's a tight squeeze. If I have to unpack it at customs, I'm not certain I'll be able to get it all packed again.
Tomorrow my bus leaves at 11:20am. My plane leaves at 16:05. I should arrive home around 9:30 or 10:00.
The towel buddy today was a donkey.
