Mexico Holiday: Day 15 (The Voyage Home)

Kevin travels back home after a great vacation.

Sunday March 4 I got up about 7:00, finished packing, had some breakfast, then spent my last few hours sitting down at the beach.

I had to meet the bus at 11:20. Around 10:00 I went back to my room, got my single bag, and headed up to the Club Diamond desk to check out. Then I headed to the Tulum Lobby to meet the bus.

I expected to find a large tour bus like the one we came in on. Instead, there was a guy there with a van. He fit ten people into the van, then headed off to the airport.

Once there, he dropped us off at the departures area. We went inside, and were told we had to go all the way to the west end of the building to get to the Skyservice checkin. About half-way down, we hit a huge crowd of people. However, it turns out they were all lining up to head back to the US, not for SkyService. So we got the great idea of going outside, bypassing all those people, then going back into the building at the last doors, right in front of the almost empty SkyService line. Saved us a lot of time there.

I checked my bag (had Tequila in it so couldn't carry it on the plane). After going through security, I had a few hours to visit the shps. Went to T. G. I. Fridays for lunch (a half hour wait).

The flight left at 16:05, but we had to start boarding at 15:05. That's because we had to be taken to the plane in shuttle buses. One interesting thing about the Boeing 757 is that it has doors in the middle of the plane you can use to board the plane. In Saskatoon where it is cold and they have to use the ramp, they connect to the front door by the cockpit. But in Mexico where we could go outside, they could drive the ramp up to the middle doors to let people out faster.

Boarding the Plane

We got on the plane, then after a short delay while they cleared birts off the runway, we were off for home.

Not much to say about the ride home, except that I happened to raise the blind on the window just in time to see the sunset from the plane.

Sunset on the Plane

All in all, a great end to an excellent vacation.

We set down in Saskatoon about 21:45, and I was home. To -15C weather (sigh).
