Murray Librarians on Sabbatical

Two Murray Librarians, Candice Dahl and David Smith, will be on sabbatical in 2011-2012.

Candice will be investigating the current range of programs in place across North America that allow library patrons to select a portion of titles for the library’s’ collections according to their needs (patron-driven or demand-driven acquisition). Her goal is to explore such practices in order to assess the nature of patron-driven services, the ways in which they impact library practices and values, and the implications for librarian-mediated models of collection development.

David Smith will be working on his PhD dissertation in History while on sabbatical in 2011-2012. His research, focusing on myths and symbols of the Old West and U.S. Presidents, will take him to several presidential libraries and possibly the Library of Congress.
