New Tab for Students with Disabilities

Five hundred and ninety students registered with the university’s Disability Services for Students office will have noticed a new tab when they last logged in to PAWS. New to PAWS, the DSS tab contains seven channels containing information about and direct access to services offered by this important campus resource.

The core services of Disability Services for Students -- Letters to Professors, Notetaking, Exam Accommodations, Alternate Format and Assistive Technology -- are represented by individual channels that contain information and timely updates, and links to online requests for service, a workstation booking application and quick access to notes. Two other channels keep students up to date with DSS news and relevant links.

Disability Services for Students staff are excited to integrate their services with PAWS. “Our students have been asking for DSS information in PAWS for some time,” says manager Maxine Kinakin. “This tab is a big step towards improving the way we help students access our services.”

In future, many channels will contain students’ personal status with regard to services. DSS staff are working closely with Student & Enrolment Services’ IT staff on a planned “phase 2” of the tab.
