New PAWS Tab for Employees and New Finance Content

There’s a new tab in PAWS, visible to all faculty and staff, called the Employee tab. If you work at the U of S, you’ll recognize its content from its former location on the Admin Services tab. We’ve moved four channels to the new tab to better reflect the two types of content in PAWS aimed at Employees. The new Employee tab contains content relating to you as an employee. Looking for your pay information? Assistance from the EAP? Access to your pension plan? The Employee tab is where you’ll find it.

The Admin Services tab is now dedicated to content relating to your work, and includes two new channels for employees who use UniFi, called UniFi Self-Service and UniFi Plus. If you need access to the Academic Admin Services channel, Financial Services, Wireless Guest Access, Workflow Worklist or other job-related resources and systems, the Admin Services tab is still where to go.

As always, you can get help with anything PAWS related by contacting the ICT Help Desk. We welcome your feedback, so please send us your comments or suggestions.

New Tab for Students with Disabilities

Five hundred and ninety students registered with the university’s Disability Services for Students office will have noticed a new tab when they last logged in to PAWS. New to PAWS, the DSS tab contains seven channels containing information about and direct access to services offered by this important campus resource.

The core services of Disability Services for Students -- Letters to Professors, Notetaking, Exam Accommodations, Alternate Format and Assistive Technology -- are represented by individual channels that contain information and timely updates, and links to online requests for service, a workstation booking application and quick access to notes. Two other channels keep students up to date with DSS news and relevant links.

Disability Services for Students staff are excited to integrate their services with PAWS. “Our students have been asking for DSS information in PAWS for some time,” says manager Maxine Kinakin. “This tab is a big step towards improving the way we help students access our services.”

In future, many channels will contain students’ personal status with regard to services. DSS staff are working closely with Student & Enrolment Services’ IT staff on a planned “phase 2” of the tab.

Do you have comments about anything PAWS related? We're always open to feedback.

New 2 U Tab for New Faculty

New faculty joining the University this summer will be the first to find a "New 2 U" tab when they log in to PAWS. This tab contains information and links that will help orient new faculty members to life here at the University of Saskatchewan and in Saskatoon. Getting computers and e-mail up and running; finding employee resources; accessing instructional and research support; learning about life on campus and life beyond campus -- these are just some of what our newest faculty will have at their fingertips when they arrive... and even before they are physically here at the University.

Although the tab expires automatically six months from a new faculty member's start date, some information may be relevant to all faculty and can be subscribed to at any time. The Faculty Life and Life Beyond Campus channels both have some info for all faculty. If you are faculty (but not so new), you may subscribe to these channels by clicking the Customize Content/Layout link at the top left of PAWS. The channels you see will contain only the information targeted to all faculty.

PAWS is always growing and changing, and we plan to roll out customized New 2 U tabs for new students and new employees in the future. Do you have suggestions for information you think people new to the campus community would find helpful? Send us your suggestions for the New 2 U tab or anything else in PAWS by clicking on the Feedback link at the bottom of the PAWS login page.

Oh, and welcome to PAWS, all you new faculty members. We wish you an easy transition in your first weeks and months!

Reorganized Academics Tab

Check out the newly reorganized Academics tab on PAWS. You'll see you can now find all the academic information you need more quickly and easily than ever – including ready access to your courses, grades, exam schedule, transcripts and more.

Students will see a more streamlined, easy-to-navigate "Registration" channel with a new section containing quick links to registration tutorials, info on deadlines for adding and dropping classes, common registration errors, and financial responsibilities. It's a great place to make sure you know everything you need to before actually registering for or dropping a class. Then, once you're up to speed, the Registration channel will take you to exactly where you need to go to add and drop classes, check your current schedule and more. You'll even be able to check, print -- or send directly by e-mail -- your official confirmation of enrolment.

The newly reorganized Academics tab also makes it easier than ever to order official transcripts, view mid-term grades, apply for admission to other colleges, pay for tuition and other fees, view holds against your account and get your official T2202A tax receipt.

Instructors and Advisors will continue to see a channel allowing streamlined access to SiRIUS and all the services they need, including grade entry and grade approval.

New Alumni Tab in PAWS

Since December, all U of S alumni who log in to PAWS will see a new tab in their layouts. The Alumni tab gives graduates quick access via PAWS to information and services offered by the U of S and University of Saskatchewan Alumni Association who provide services to alumni. Alumni will find the Alumni Gift Shop (the University's first virtual retailer); the Student Employment & Career Centre's online job postings; the Green & White (the University's magazine for alumni and friends); a new Alumni News channel; and more.

Look for the Alumni tab alongside your other PAWS tabs (Home tab, Academics or Admin Services tab, News tab, Library tab, etc.)

The University looks forward to continuing its relationship with students via PAWS once they graduate, and is excited to provide information and services to existing alumni in this new way. Please send your feedback to alumni.office@usask.ca!

News Tab--Your Source U of S and External News

Alongside the Home, Academics, Campus Life and other tabs in PAWS you'll find a new tab called News. If you're reading this blog entry through the What's New in PAWS channel in PAWS rather than right in the blog itself at http://blogs.usask.ca/, chances are you've already found it! Besides the What's New in PAWS channel, the News tab contains channels that will connect you to other internal and external new sources such as The Sheaf, On Campus News, CBC.ca and Reuters. We've pre-selected these channels for the news tabs, but, as always, you are welcome to make PAWS your own space. Remove news channels that you don't want by clicking the X at the top right corner of the channel. Add your prefered news sources, such as Yahoo News Top Stories or Tech News from the Campus Computer Store by clicking the content/layout link at the top left of your PAWS window. So, what's new in PAWS? News!
