2009 Fall Programming Contest Results

The Department of Computer Science would like to thank all participants and sponsors for making fall 2009 programming competition a success. 12 teams in 3 categories hunkered down to make our local programming contest one of the best ever. For the first time, there were three one-student teams who dominated the competition and won prizes in Novice and Advanced categories.

The standings have been posted in the contest page. Contest problems should be added "Real Soon Now".

Fall 2009 International Collegiate Programming Contest

The Department of Computer Science will be hosting the local 2009 Fall Preliminary of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) on Saturday, October 3rd, 2009.

The contest will be held on third floor spinks (Thorv S320). Registration will begin at 9:00, and the contest will run from 9:30 until the prize ceremony at 3:15. Teams will consist of up to three programmers. A free lunch of pizza and pop will be provided for all competitors. Prizes will be awarded as well. For more information, see the contest page.

All University of Saskatchewan and SIAST Students are welcome to compete in the Novice and Advanced categories, and anyone is welcome to compete in the Open category.

2009 Spring Contest a success!

The 2009 Spring Programming Contest was held this afternoon to great success! 7 advanced student teams and 2 novice student teams came out for the day to solve problems, eat pizza, and have fun. We also saw a faculty team (featuring Prolog Gurus Eric and Mike), and a staff team consisting of Guus, Sadie and Diane. Finally, we were pleased to welcome our first ever industry competitor in Robin Dunlop from Vecima Networks.

Thanks go to Point2 for sponsoring the pizza lunch, and to PotashCorp, ESTI, zu.com, and The Department of Computer Science for sponsoring the prizes.

The final standings and full team listings will be posted shortly. In the mean time, the problems from today have been posted at the contest page. Please feel free to have a look and give the problems a try for yourselves!

Local Fall ACM Programming Competition 2007

The fall local ACM Programming Competition will be on Saturday, September 29th. Registration is free and includes a pizza lunch and refreshments for contestants. Registration at 9AM, practice at 10AM, and competition from 11AM - 3PM. After the competition, prizes will be given for top teams in both novice and advanced categories. Teams that place well may be chosen to represent the University of Saskatchewan at the regional competition.

Signup instructions are forthcoming, see programmingcontest.usask.ca. Attending with a pre-formed group is not necessary; if you have a pre-formed group, sign up individually and self-identify during registration. Take the opportunity to come out and show us what you've got. All levels of experience are needed and welcome!

Spring Preliminary of the International Collegiate Programming Contest

The Spring Local International Collegiate Programming Contest will take place on Saturday, February 24, 2007. It will consist of both a novice and advanced contest, running from 09:00 to 13:00. Lunch will be provided for those competing. Prizes have been provided by several local merchants, as well as by Google.
