Closing the Gap in a Generation: Health Equity through Action

WHOReport.bmpThe World Health Organization released their 256 page report, Gap in a Generation: Health Equity through Action on the Social Determinants of Healthtoday, the product of a 3 year investigation by various policy makers.
The report calls for major change through action to close the gap between rich and poor within a generation. The report makes three overall reccommendations to close this gap:

1) Improve daily living conditions, including the circumstances in which people are born, grow, live, work and age.
2) Tackle the inequitable distribution of power, money and resources – the structural drivers of those conditions – globally, nationally and locally.
3) Measure and understand the problem and assess the impact of action.

Social Accountability Medline Updates

new-rss-xml-feed-icon.jpgOkay, I am a librarian by training and find database alerts to be a simple and easy way to stay up to date with what's new in the literature.

If you are interested in keeping up with what's being published on the topic of social accountability and medical schools but just don't have the time to search yourself, follow the instructions on how to set up a database RSS alert in OVID Medline. Then every time a new article on the topic of social accounatibility and medical schools is entered into Medline you'll be the first to know. Plus you'll be able to do this for any other topic you're interested in.

Search terms to use in Medline: "Social Responsibility" AND "Medical, Schools"

Setting up the database alert:
1) Go to the U of S Library page and find Medline (Ovid) database
2) Click on Personal Account (for Searches) - If you do not have a personal account, click on Create a new Personal Account.
3)Log in with your Personal Account Name and Password.
4)Click on the Save Search/Alert.
5)Enter a name for the alert and select AutoAlert (SDI) from the drop-down Type menu.
6)Complete the AutoAlert Options and then click SAVE.
