REORGANIZATION OF THE EXTENSION DIVISION

Over the next 14 months, two new centres will take over many of the functions currently handled by the Extension Division.

The Centre for Continuing and Distance Education, will provide innovative, alternative and flexible forms of education. It will be formally established July 1, 2006. Its areas of activity include continuing education and life-long learning (non-credit courses, workshops and certificate programs) and coordination of the on- and off-campus delivery of degree credit courses that are offered using televised, online and correspondence methods or combinations of these methods.

The New Learning Centre, expected to open January 1, 2007, is envisioned as an academic support unit, with a mandate to help both students and instructors enhance the quality of the educational experience offered by the University. The Centre will act as an advocate for best practices, and innovations in teaching and learning.

The Extension Division will be disestablished on July 1, 2007. By that time the new Centre for Continuing and Distance Education will have taken over responsibility for all of the programs currently offered by the Division.

You should be assured that whatever changes are made, they will have little or no effect on most of the educational programs of the current Extension Division. In particular, all students in certificate programs will be able to continue their programs without disruption as these programs will move the new Centre for Continuing and Distance Education.
