Results from Italy
The University of Saskatchewan men’s curling team led by skip Steve Laycock finished just out of the medals at the 23rd Winter Universiade in Torino, Italy.
The rink, which includes Ryan Deis, Matthew Ryback and Drew Heidt, fell 9-4 to the team from Sweden in the bronze medal game Jan. 26. In March 2006, the U of S team won the Canadian University Curling Championship to advance to the international competition.
On the women’s side, the University of Calgary’s team skipped by Brittany Gregor, took the gold medal, upsetting the Russian Federation team 6-5. The bronze medal went to the rink from Japan.
