A Better Math Course
“For the first time in a long time, math is not the lowest mark in Engineering.”
That, according to Raj Srinivasan, head of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, was the aim of a Math 110 course set up specifically for first-year Engineering students. The College of Arts and Science worked with Engineering to revamp the course. By streamlining the delivery of the course, co-ordinating labs and tests, and assigning homework well in advance, Math Professor John Stephenson managed to do what he set out to do – raise the average mark.
