Graduate Award Winner
Pravintheran (Pravin) Pillay, a recent Master of Fine Arts graduate, was named one of six winners of the Innovative Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETD) Award and also winner of the Innovative Learning Through ETD Award by the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations.
His thesis, entitled Samsara Unlimited: Toward an ecology of compassion, is a multimedia production that includes a web-based "company" (Samsara Unlimited), an exhibition on campus, design and production of clothing and other items, and a written component. In announcing the award in May, the Networked Digital Library said Pillay’s “exemplary work has created a unique model of digital media research that will encourage further endeavors in this area … Your work will provide a clear road for others to follow.”
Pillay will receive the two awards at the ETD 2007 Symposium in Uppsala, Sweden. The awards also come with a cheque for $1,300 U.S.
This is the first year the Innovative ETD Award and the Innovative Learning Through ETDs Award have been presented.
