Bayer Ag Scholarships
Ten undergraduate students in the College of Agriculutre and Bioresources have been awarded $1,000 scholarships thanks to a new initiative established by Bayer CropScience.
The scholarships were launched to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Bayer’s InVigor hybrid canola, as well as the University’s centennial in 2007. Bayer said in a news release that it will be continuing this scholarship program for the next two years.
Students applied for the scholarships by writing a brief essay on how canola will contribute to the success of Canadian agriculture during the next decade. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be enrolled in their second or third year of study in the College of Agriculture and Bioresources.
The 2007 InVigor Anniversary Scholarship recipients include:

• Kyla Cutts - Saskatoon, SK
• Chad Ferguson – Naicam, SK
• Kyle Mackow – Chaplin, SK
• Bronwyn Ragetli - White Horse, Yukon Territory
• Kaitlin Strobbe - Saskatoon
• Roberta Templeton - Coaldale, AB
• Bailey Wilmot - Carnduff, SK
• Landon Zimmer - Luseland, SK
The winners were presented with their scholarship during the U of S Been Feed Gala. The winning essays were published in the Western Producer, and can also be found at www.bayercropscience.ca.
The deadline for entry into the 2008 scholarship program is May 30. The essay topic for this year’s scholarship is as follows:
“The demand for specialty canola oil combed with the outstanding performance benefits of hybrid technology has the potential to change the face of the Canadian canola industry. What opportunities does this present for Canada’s canola growers?”
To the apply for the 2008 award, students must fill out the application from on Bayer’s website and return it along with the essay to:
