Forest Fire Evacuees Take Shelter on Campus

Residents of northern Saskatchewan communities will be staying on campus after forest fires forced their evacuation.

About 200 residents from the Sandy Bay area arrived Friday afternoon and will remain at the University until it's safe for them to return home. While the evacuees are on campus, they will be staying in Qu’Appelle Hall and Qu’Appelle extension with meals provided by Marquis Hall.

The forest fire situation in the north of the province continues to escalate with more than 1,000 people evacuated due to forest fires so far.

Evacuees are staying in Saskatoon, Regina, and Prince Albert.
