Huskies Invade the Bay

The University is giving up its seasonal Huskie store in Midtown Plaza in favour of a permanent year-round location on the second floor of the Bay.

Mark Jagoe, director of retail services with the University Bookstore, said the Bay provides the University of Regina with space in its Regina store and agreed to do the same for the U of S when approached earlier this year. The Huskie merchandise will cover about 500 square feet between the store’s second-floor cafeteria and its checkouts. The space was most recently used to display merchandise promoting the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

Opened the week of July 14, the stores is selling "everything we would be selling in a regular Huskie store,” said Jagoe, “The great thing about this is that it’s year-round and because the Bay will be handling sales, we don’t have to have our own staff and tills.”

And while the Bay will take a percentage of sales, Jagoe said that arrangement will be less costly than employing university staff and equipment.

The contract with the Bay is for one year, after which the situation will be evaluated, he said.

Seasonal Huskie stores will open in the Mall at Lawson Heights and the Centre at Circle and Eighth early in August.
