MBA Student Wins Silver at World Rugby Championships
To train for the 2008 rugby World University Championships in Cordoba, Spain, Dana Stoughton jogged around Saskatoon in the middle of July wearing sweat pants, toques, and sweaters to prepare for the 40 degree – plus heat.

“I got a lot of funny looks jogging,” said Stoughton who returned home with a silver medal in the rugby sevens tournament.
After winning the 2004 tournament in China and the 2006 tournament in Italy, the defending Canadian champions were early favorites heading to Spain. But the homegrown Spanish would prove too much for the Canadians in the sweltering heat of Cordoba with a 17 -12 victory.
“I’d like to say they were better adapted to the heat,” said Stoughton. “But they were a good team.”
Stoughton, who is finishing up her MBA from the Edwards School of Business, was one of twelve university students from across the country chosen for the national team.
She was the only player however, not a member of a varsity rugby team since the University of Saskatchewan doesn’t offer women’s rugby at the CIS level. Stoughton plays for the Wild Oats senior women’s team in Saskatoon.
Stoughton is hoping women’s rugby can find a home at the University of Saskatchewan in the future.
