Fall 2008 Master Teacher Named
At fall convocation Oct. 25, Angela Ward will be presented with the university's Master Teacher Award, recognition of her special qualities in the classroom.

Master Teacher Angela Ward
Angela Ward, assistant dean of education for student affairs, partnerships and research, and professor of curriculum studies, completed her BA in English language and literature at the University of London (UK), her MEd at UBC and her PhD at the University of Victoria. Through more than 30 years of teaching and learning in western and northern Canada, Ward has come to understand that education is about creating a learning community where students feel able to question their own assumptions, linking content to practical and professional knowledge, and to developing critical and creative perspectives on education.
As a classroom teacher in BC, Ward developed a commitment to supporting social justice for indigenous peoples that has been a thread in her professional and academic activities throughout her 18 years at the U of S. As a teacher educator, she helps student teachers focus on processes of learning, set educational goals, manage learning environments and engage their own students. Ward envisions her work as preparing teacher candidates for work in an open, inclusive Canada that recognizes the varying rights and responsibilities of all members of our society.
