Allyse Kreiser, Kevin Mamer and Kevin Sundquist earned the prize with their design, Low-Temperature Crystallization Unit for Sulphate and Perchlorate Removal from a Closed System Sodium Chlorate Plant. The students’ research supports a new process to effectively remove chemicals from a system, ultimately allowing a company to become self-sufficient and save money while reducing the environmental footprint. The students spent two terms working on the project, collaborating with professors and industry contacts. The project was sponsored by ERCO Worldwide.

The competition, for students enrolled in undergraduate chemical engineering programs at Canadian universities, encompasses both a written design proposal and an oral presentation before a panel of judges.
