His latest initiative, 3twenty Solutions, recently took first place at the i3 idea Challenge, a contest organized by the W. Brett Wilson Centre for Entrepreneurial Excellence at the University of Saskatchewan. Participation in this competition, combined with receiving his bachelor of commerce degree at spring convocation, will create a strong foundation for moving into the business world.

“Professors have been absolutely crucial to where I am now,” said McCrea. He specifically points to Grant Isaac, dean of the Edwards School of Business, and Sanj Singh, director of the Wilson Centre, as two strong supporters of youth enterprise. He also credits the support of business leaders in the city. “The Saskatoon business community is very open and welcoming to entrepreneurs who have good ideas and vision.”

When choosing which university to attend, “it came down to the U of S having such a good reputation, and the business school especially.” He chose an accounting major to complement his entrepreneurial spirit.

Speaking about his latest venture, McCrea said 3twenty Solutions will recycle used shipping containers and turn them into housing to address the affordable housing crisis in cities like Saskatoon and Regina and as a practical solution for accommodations at mine and construction sites.
“It’s green, it’s environmentally friendly.” He also sees the potential for expansion globally. “Because you can just ship them, they can go anywhere.”

McCrea said he is always looking for his next opportunity to learn and has this advice for future students: “Make the world your classroom. Don’t take no for answer. If someone shuts a door, go around them.”
