Phytotron overhaul

The first step is replacing the light bulbs, but it’s a critical one in the plan to eventually overhaul one of the College of Agriculture and Bioresources’ most important teaching and research tools.

Ceremony marks start of residence construction

To mark the start of construction of the new student residence at the College Quarter, the U of S along with project partners—the Province of Saskatchewan, the City of Saskatoon and Meridian Development Corp.—held a ceremonial mantle chiseling and unveiled the building design on Feb. 8.

University transit and weather update

Special projects boost library ranking

The University of Saskatchewan has made a significant jump in the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) Almanac of Post-Secondary Education ranking of research library holdings – from 111th in 2002-03 to 58th in 2006-07 – but that change is likely an anomaly reflecting targeted funding for two projects.

Celebrating our National Historic Site

At the plaque unveiling ceremony June 19, the College Building was recognized by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada as a National Historic Site - a designation it received in 2001.

Taking up Residence


A big research facility like the Canadian Light Source synchrotron at the U of S would seem an unlikely place to find a writer-in-residence, unless that writer has a particular interest in science fiction.

E Wing Headed to Tender


With construction underway on D Wing, the university is moving toward a call for bids on the next phase of the Academic Health Sciences project, a building that will connect to the College of Dentistry and Royal University Hospital.

Parking Services on the Move

The Parking Services office is moving from their current location in the University Services Building to a new location in the Animal Science Building – located across the street from the NRC Plant Biotechnology Institute at 72 Campus Dr.

Tuck Shop, Post Office Open


The Tuck Shop is once again open for business after several months of renovations designed to make room for more people and create a new home for the Canada Post outlet on campus.

Residence Project Partner Named


The university has selected Saskatoon-based Meridian Development Corporation as its partner in a plan to build up to 200 new four-bedroom housing units for students.

Paving Project Continues - Aug. 28-08


Contrary to information released Aug. 27, Campus Drive South will NOT be closed for paving Friday Aug. 29.

Marquis Hall Short Term Closure

Renovations to the Marquis Hall retail area are scheduled from Aug. 4 - 22 inclusive. During this time our retail area will be closed for cash customers. Events scheduled in the dining rooms and kitchen production will not be affected.

Place Riel Bus Terminal Closed for the Summer

Bus service through the Place Riel transit hub will be re-routed starting Wednesday, July 2, to allow for paving of Campus Drive South.

University Pursues Student Housing Options

Even though Saskatchewan Housing has turned down its application for a $19 million grant to help build 200 family townhouses for students, the University will proceed with planning as if the project were going ahead.

Consumer Services has begun the search for an architect, a restaurant designer and a retail designer who can help transform Marquis Hall into the centre for food and retail services on campus.

Land Use Review Underway

Driven in part by a proposal to use agricultural research lands south of the main campus for a student residence development, the University has embarked on a review of how it uses all its urban land, and what future opportunities those lands might represent.

GSA Common Area Discussed

Space has been allocated to an “on again, off again” project that has sat on the drawing board for years, but there’s still no guarantee the Graduate Students Association (GSA) will have a new commons area in the immediate future.

Library Set For More Renovations

Work on the second stage of the University Learning Centre (ULC) is expected to start in early October, as authorities hope to see the extensive $6 million project completed in about 12 months.
