French Before English

French ImmersionMy daughters are attending a french immersion school. My oldest is currently in grade one. Last Tuesday, she let me know that she had show-and-tell on Vendredi...

----

with Vendredi being french for Friday. So I then asked her, "what day is today?"

Without hesitation, she came back with "Mardi".

"Yes, but what is that in English?"

She thought about that for a minute, and then tentatively answered, "... uh... Monday?"

I laughed and replied that no, Mardi was french for Tuesday.

"Oh, right!" she grinned and ran off to play. I stood there for a few seconds, marveling at how her french language and comprehension skills had improved so much in her first year of school.
