Butterfly Kisses and Frog Shows

My daughters have truly embraced insects, bugs and small animals as more than just an aspect of camping to be tolerated, but rather as an integral part of what is to be enjoyed about camping.

----

The first image above shows my oldest daughter posing with a butterfly on her nose. This shot was her idea! She loves setting up interesting pictures. She asked me to get ready to take a picture, and then when I was ready she placed the butterfly on her nose, and did her best to smile. The first few times that my daughters caught butterflies they kept them too long which led to dead butterflies, but now they're on the catch-and-release program and most of their specimens survive to fly again.

The frogs in this picture are apparently learning how to walk the balance beam. The balance beam in this case is the end of the pole on a butterfly net. At one point there were over forty (40) frogs caught in various containers at our camp site in Wakaw Lake. Again, miraculously none of them died on this trip, they were all caught and released.

Finally we have the frog award ceremony, where four frogs are all lined up on a upside-down sandal, accepting their awards for being the highest jumper, longest jumper, etc. I'm not sure how the lone frog on the rock below is feeling - perhaps he's a little sad that he isn't getting an award. Some of the frogs do have names like "Hopper", "Biggie" and "Quickie", however I didn't notice any of them actually responding when they were called.
