Pink Flamingo in Chalk

As my daughters grow, I'm fascinated by how they develop, and I'm usually comparing that to what I can remember from my own childhood. This pink flamingo is a good example...

----

I sent both girls outside to play one sunny day this past June. After a short time the neighbour girls from across the street joined them, and they all decided they wanted to draw on the ground with sidewalk chalk. I got the chalk down for them and then went back in the house.

About an hour later I was back outside to do some yard work, and decided to see what they had drawn. From the three other girls, I saw "normal" chalk drawings... but from my oldest daughter, who is now nine years old, the drawings were quite good. This is the one I liked the best, a pink flamingo:

I asked her what made her think to draw a flamingo, and she answered, "I'm not sure... I just looked at a few squiggles that one of the other girls had drawn, and I saw a flamingo in them... so I just filled it in". This sounds like answer I'd get from a mature artist! Certainly, her talent at drawing is much better than mine was at that age and also now.

What an elegant looking chalk flamingo.
