Canadian Federal Debt Clock

digital_clock.jpgGood news! I've located a debt clock that relays much the same information that I calculated in my blog entry on Canadian federal debt per capita. It's both depressing and fun to watch at the same time.

----

If you visit http://www.debtclock.ca/ then you will see a calculation of Canadian federal debt per capita similar to what I've just captured here:

I'm not a member of the Canadian Taxpayers' Federation (although, I'll be looking into them now that I've been made aware of their web site). We have both arrived at much the same calculations independently. Which I guess isn't truly good news, since we're both saying that our debt is too high and should be paid down.

Apparently the federal government still doesn't have a Minister of Finance who cares to pay down the debt. I actually don't think he's as incompetent as our last two budgets makes him look. Rather, I suspect he's being told how to position the budget so that it will buy more votes for the federal party currently in power. This currently happens to be the Conservatives, but I'm really not sure any of others would be doing anything differently at this point in time. I guess we'll find out next federal election...
