Canada's Federal Budget Versus Political Party
Leading up to another Canadian federal election, I thought it would be interesting to update the graph that I made in 2009 showing Canada's federal deficit against the ruling political party.

Canada's Federal Deficit Deceit
I first heard the phrase "lying with statistics" back in my undergrad stats class in 1993. The professor showed us how the same set of data could be manipulated in graphs and charts to support different conclusions. I suspect that Canada's federal government is attempting something similar with their latest set of financial statements.

The Stock Market Is For Suckers
I really like the title of this blog entry by Marc Cuban: The Stock Market is still for Suckers and why you should put your money in the bank. But it's more than just a long rant in a blog title, it's a good article. I've already written about The Day I Decided The Stock Market Was Gambling (see Marc? I can rant in blog titles, too!) but that was a virtual stock market competition decades ago... since then, my opinion about stocks has gotten even worse.

The Case For Fiscal Restraint
I've commented a lot already on Canada's federal debt, and the fact that I think we should be trying to pay it down, but that doesn't seem to be the path that many of our "top economists" are suggesting we take. Some times I wonder if I'm in an absurdly small minority. However, once in a while I do stumble on an article or editorial that supports my idea of fiscal restraint and re-affirms my beliefs.

The Day I Decided The Stock Market Was Gambling
Back in grade 12 I took an optional class in Economics, since I was fortunate to attend a high school with 1600 students and plenty of non-standard programming. A couple of weeks into the school year our Econ teacher announced that there was a national stock market competition, and anyone interested should contact him. It was free to enter, so I thought why not. It couldn't be that much work, and perhaps I would learn about the stock market.

Canadian Federal Debt Clock
Good news! I've located a debt clock that relays much the same information that I calculated in my blog entry on Canadian federal debt per capita. It's both depressing and fun to watch at the same time.

Canada Federal Debt Per Capita
There is an interesting blog entry over at HS Dent again that talks about the proposed federal budget for the United States...

Canada's Debt Versus GDP - Update 2010
With regards to Canada's Federal Debt, I've already hinted that Canada is going deeper into debt. Now that another year has gone by since my last look at the Summary Report from the Public Accounts of Canada, let's see how bad it is.

Canada's National Debt - We're Digging a Deeper Hole
I'm overly fascinated with Canada's National Debt, even though I feel quite powerless to affect it in any way. So I'm relegated to analysis and commentary. At least I have something to keep me entertained.

Canada's So-called Expert on Finance
According to their web site, the Department of Finance "develops policies and provides advice to the Government with the goal of creating a healthy economy for all Canadians." Assuming that's true, one would then expect that the person heading up the Department of Finance would be some economic guru, some trend-recognizing wizard with a penchant for steering the country's finances away from trouble before it hits. He would make press releases full of such economic wisdom and insight that the rest of us humble Canadians would collectively sigh with joy that we have such a financially adept Minister of Finance. So let's take a look at what Minister Jim Flaherty has to say then and now...

Canada's Debt versus GDP - Update Jan 2009
In what has become about a yearly tradition for me, last year I wrote an update on Canada's National Debt versus GDP. Sadly, time is flying by, and it's been another year -- time to look at the updated picture.

Are We Paying Canada's Debt Down Fast Enough?
I've been thinking more about Canada's National Debt, and what the overall health of the world's economy may be in the next five to ten years. After reading an article related to my previous thoughts, I think we do need to change course.

Canada's National Debt vs. GDP - An Update
A little over a year ago, I wrote about Canada's National Debt versus GDP. Surprising to me, a few people found the article and commented on it, including a new comment today. So I decided to take a look at the updated financial picture.

Canadian National Debt vs. GDP
If examine Canada's spending habits versus income (national debt or federal debt versus GDP) over time, it seems that we are slowly coming around to being fiscally responsible again...
