Someone Saved My Life Tonight

accident tapeI was driving home after a game of curling tonight, traveling the same route I always take home, around 11:30 pm. I was sitting at the first controlled intersection, waiting on the red light to turn green...

My Dad Was Lucky To Walk Away

dad_accident_002.jpgOn Friday July 30, 2010, my sister called me at work. "Dad's been in an accident!" were not the words I expected to hear from her. Over the next few hours she sent me updates, eventually from the hospital where the ambulance took him. The final word was that he was going to be okay.

Pink Flamingo in Chalk

As my daughters grow, I'm fascinated by how they develop, and I'm usually comparing that to what I can remember from my own childhood. This pink flamingo is a good example...

Red Lights and Air Bag Burns

airbag burnsOne week ago today, I drove straight through a red light at an intersection and struck another vehicle. Contrary to most automobile accidents I've been in throughout my life, this one was completely my fault....

Goodbye, Jerry

jerry_huff.jpgJerry Huff was one of many professors that I had classes with during my undergraduate years at the University of Saskatchewan. Although I wasn't shocked, I was quite sad when I heard the news that his condition had finally caught up with him and he had passed away.

Tonight, I Drew Tears

single tearThere are very few occasions when one has a real heart-to-heart talk with someone else. And certainly, 2:00 am in a local bar is not usually where you find youself when in the middle of one. Yet, there I was...

From Brown to Orange

Living in our present house for the last eight years, we have been very busy with renovations. We've replaced floor coverings all throughout, spent countless hours painting, replaced the furnace and water heater, even jackhammered and re-poured heaved concrete in the basement. Yes, we upgraded almost everything... except, the kitchen cabinets. Until now.

Ink, Pink

one_fish_two_fish.jpgIt was bedtime for the girls (about 8:30 pm) one evening a few weeks ago, and I had just finished reading Dr. Seuss' "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish" to them. My youngest daughter was already in bed, but the oldest was dragging her feet a bit. So I was patiently waiting in the bathroom for her to come and brush her teeth...

My First Dive

scuba_divers.jpgI had never seriously thought of myself as a diver before. I was curious, but like so many other things in life, it was one of those cases of "I wonder if I would like it?" Those Things On the Wall Really Work

I broke down, and decided to try a simple experiment in my cubicle. I wanted to see if hanging one of those "insiprational" type of posters would actually affect either my mood or my behaviour.

To my surprise, it did...

Back to Biking

Apparently, higher powers have determined that I'm not in shape and I need more exercise than just working out and curling a few times each week. Yes, I've started riding my bicycle to work again - but not by choice, though.
