First Years in Residence
I spent the first two years of university living in residence. These were segregated dorms rooms, just large enough to hold a bed, desk, and dresser/closet. Living in residence was both a blessing and a curse...

They Call Me Beef
Childhood nicknames are a wonder. They range from insightful to cruel, from flattering to confusing and beyond. They can be based on the person's real name, their hair color (or some other physical feature), their favorite sport... the list goes on. There is one nickname I never could figure out, though...

Rediscovering Jack L. Chalker
There are a number of books that I read throughout my early life that I now remember only vaguely through sketchy plot details, small bits of characters or perhaps even an inclination of what the front cover illustration looked like. It's a pleasant surprise when I stumble on one of these books and I'm afforded the opportunity to re-read them and examine my earlier impressions.

Rae LaCharity in Grade School
We're preparing to move to a new house, so I was rummaging through old boxes of stuff, trying to get rid of some of it so we have less to move. Buried in an old school folder in one of those boxes was material from Grade 7 and Grade 8, including two pictures of Rae.

Skipping A Grade
A few years before my elementary school burned to the ground from an act of arson, you could have found me in the school library. It was grade one, and although the rest of my class was busy doing their math practice, I was exempt and I was told to just "go to the library and find something to read".

A Tragedy Named Rae
It's been seven years since I first heard the news that someone I knew was shot and killed - and I don't mean in a hunting accident. I went through school with Rae LaCharity, and I always suspected that life wasn't going to be fair on him.

The Day My Dad Was The Hero
One of the sports that I played while growing up was baseball. I actually kept that up for a few seasons - in contrast to some of the other sports I tried.
The summer between grade 6 and grade 7 was one of the seasons of baseball for me. I remember that my Dad ended up being coach that year, and really, the team couldn't have asked for better.

The Car That Almost Killed me
I had been living in Westbank, BC, working at a electronic repair shop in Kelowna called Valley Digitronics. Occasionally, Valley Digitronics received some calls for work that they just didn't do, and these calls would be passed on to me if I wanted to make some extra money working in the evenings.
Little did I know that the diversion that one of these jobs provided in my schedule would almost become the last I ever did.

The Day The Magnet Hit The Floor
I'm not a violent person - sure I get mad like anyone does from time to time, but I don't usually blow up. However, there was one time, back in high school that still sticks out in my mind.

The Rainbow Connection
It was around October 1988, and a friend of mine was spinning tunes at a local bar (which has since vanished from 8th St Saskatoon and turned into a restaurant). The bar had just changed hands and the new owner was looking for ways to draw a university crowd.
