Hey everyone!
My name is Ryan and I’m a new ULife Coach Blogger. I’m in my second year of electrical engineering. But that’s enough of an introduction for right now.
So I’d like to start right now by saying one of the things I currently love about the University of Saskatchewan. That is the services provided for first years. I was a first year last year, coming to Saskatoon all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for the wonders of University. I arrived scared wit-less also because I didn’t know anyone and thought it might remain that way.
Oh how I was wrong.
The U of S provides some amazing services for those new to campus. It all starts at Orientation, and it seems to never end. Two great services provided by the university are Learning Communities and ULife 101. Both providing excellent ways to meet other people in your situation as well learn valuable information.
Colleges are also providing wonderful things, wanting to meet other engineers I went to many events put on by the Saskatoon Engineering Students’ Society, they had First year slo-pitch, First Year bowling, friendly games against the Agros after orientation, and many other fun events.
Now some of you right now may be wondering why I’m Blogging about events at the University of Saskatchewan that help first years when I am not in fact a first year. Good question! I am Blogging about this because I just got home from a great event.
The University of Saskatchewan Students’ Union (USSU) just had a carless drive in. They put up a big projection screen in the bowl and played ‘The Princess Bride,’ and ‘Monty Python’s: The Holy Grail.’ The first being a timeless story about Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, and many other things, most important of them being True love. Well now that you’ve caught me ranting about one of the greatest movies ever, I’ve forgotten to make my point.
At this event there was a decent turn out, quite a few people showed up and enjoyed the movies. But I believe that more people should have come out to the event. This didn’t just happen tonight, many of these events and services provided by the University of Saskatchewan or its’ Students’ Unions are magnificent, but completely skipped over by too many people. If everyone could just realize how awesome these events are, we could get so many more people showing up and enjoying themselves.
So lesson for this blog is: Events are AWESOME! And we should all be going to more of them!
After our homework is done of course.
Ryan
