USSU News and Events

The Elections Board will be accepting nominations for the following positions: President, Vice-President (Student Affairs), Vice-President (Academic Affairs), Vice-President (Operations and Finance) and Vice-President (External Affairs).

In order to make the nomination process easier for candidates please attend the MANDATORY ORIENTATION MEETING for all people who wish to run for the Executive on Thursday March 5, 2009, at 4:00 pm. The meeting will be held in Room 77, Lower Saskatchewan Hall. This meeting is designed to provide those interested in becoming Executive candidates with information relating to the duties and responsibilities of the USSU Executive.

See the U of S’ best and brightest young filmmakers at the 8th Annual USSU Film Festival. All film entries will be played on the big screen, and great prizes will be handed out during the Festival’s award ceremony which will be held February 26th at Louis', starting at 7:00 p.m.

There will be three prizes given out for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. The prizes are courtesy the University of Saskatchewan Computer Store, located in Lower Place Riel. The USSU would like to thank the Computer Store for their prize donations and participation in this event.

The prizes are:

1st Prize: Panasonic 10MP 18X Zoom Digital Camera (DMCFZ28) - SR
2nd Prize: Panasonic mini-DV camcorder (PVGS90) - SR

Should we talk about suicide? Join the USSU Help Centre for a free presentation of SafeTalk.

SafeTalk is a 3 hour workshop designed to ensure that persons with thoughts of suicide are connected to helpers who are prepared to provide first aid interventions. Suicide alert helpers are part of a suicide-safer community.

The SafeTalk workshop will be held on February 24 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. in Room 77, Lower Sask Hall. For more information about the workshop, please contact the USSU Help Centre by telephone at 966-6982, or email help.centre@ussu.ca

Need help with your homework? Want to help others with theirs? Bring your paper and a friend to the USSU Help Centre to get some feedback on your writing, while developing your own proofreading skills. Stop by the USSU Help Centre each Tuesday afternoon between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m., and exchange your papers and assignments with other students.

The Executive and University Students’ Council have decided to hold a Special General Meeting of the members of the University of Saskatchewan Students’ Union which encompasses all registered undergraduate students at the U of S. This meeting, to be held at 6:00 p.m. on February 12, 2009 in Room 159 Thorvaldson Building, will see some proposed Constitutional and Bylaw changes brought to the membership for their consideration. Because it is a Special General Meeting, rather than an Annual General Meeting, the financial statements and audit will not be presented. All undergraduate students are encouraged to attend and to have their voice heard. Bring yourself, a friend and your student cards and join us for the meeting. Pizza and refreshments will be provided

DISorientation Session: Buying a House? Realty 101

Join Slade Desrocher of Realty Executives for a one hour presentation about the things you need to know about buying or selling a house. The first half of Mr. Desrocher's presentation will be aimed at house buyers and sellers - how to make the transaction a smooth process. The second half of the presentation will focus on information on becoming a realtor. There will also be a question and answer session following the formal presentation.
