Materials To Be Moved Into Bowl

Work on moving construction materials needed for the Renew Place Riel project is scheduled to occur during the week of April 27-May 1, 2009. Most construction materials will be placed within the gated area located on the west end of the campus bowl (a map of the gated area can be found at http://www.renewplaceriel.ca/TheNewBuilding/pdfs/route_map_01.pdf)

During the week, cargo trucks will transport the materials through campus. As always, the Renew Place Riel project’s top priority is safety. While these cargo trucks are moving through campus, flag persons will be on site to help escort the vehicles. Anyone (including those using bicycles) moving around campus during the week is advised to exercise caution by staying away from the transport vehicles. Pedestrians and cyclists are also advised to comply with any direction provided to them by the flag persons.

Asphalt Removal

The outside area directly north of the Place Riel Student Centre (between the Murray Building and Marquis Hall) is scheduled for asphalt removal for much of the week of April 27 – May 1, 2009. While this area is gated from non-construction personnel, anyone with respiratory challenges or allergies should be aware that this work will create higher levels of dust near the construction zone. Persons near the area should also be aware that there will also be significant levels of noise created during this period. Offices windows directly next to the work area have been specially insulated to help reduce the heightened noise effects.

Hoarding Construction – Upper and Lower Place Riel

Students and other persons commuting through either Upper or Lower Place Riel should be aware of hoarding activities. Over the next few days, construction workers will be installing a wall that will run from Lower Place Riel in front of the old USSU Main offices and up the northern portion of the stairway (cordoning off the down escalator).

Over the next few days, the wall will fully extend into Upper Place Riel, permanently sealing the area currently housing the Royal Bank and Bank of Montreal ATMs.

Persons in either Upper or Lower Place Riel are advised to use caution when moving through the area.

For more information about the renovations, please go to the Official Place Riel Renovation website www.renewplaceriel.ca.
