VP Academic Update
Ahhh, finally in office. I feel blessed to be in his position. I've thoroughly enjoyed myself over the past few weeks. Orientation has been enlightening. We certainly have a challenge ahead of us, but we sure are ready to tackle it. We're all setting out our goals for the year, and are ecstatic for this opportunity that we have to serve you this upcoming year.
The job certainly hasn't been relaxing at all. We started off with 2 weeks of orientation, where we begun with a tour of the USSU, and went over the numerous policies that we're guided by. In addition to learning about internal operations of the USSU, we sat down with Nancy Hopkins (Chair of the UofS Board of Governors ), Lea Pennock (the University Secretary), Professor Don Story and Greg Walen (our Lawyer), to learn about the university's governance as well as a couple of workshops on how to best govern the USSU. While attending the orientation workshops, I was able to get right into my duties. I attended two hearings, dealt with two Academic grievances, and attended a Canadian Alliance for Community-Service Learning conference. This conference, hosted by the UofS Learning Centre was highly informative, well organized and certainly well attended. I'm definitely excited and looking forward to putting everything I learnt at that conference into practice.
Till next time!
